SAFETY

 

 

After a sexual assault or sexually violent act, your physical safety is a top priority. Be sure to make a safety plan for yourself and your family members—our advocates can assist you with different options. This is an important step towards being able move forward in the healing process.

HOUSING

 

 

If you do not feel safe in your home environment, it may be necessary to relocate to a friend or family member’s home until you are able to make other arrangements. Communities often have safe places nearby which may be available to you such as a domestic violence shelter. Be sure to discuss this with your advocate so they can help you locate housing.

PROTECTIVE ORDERS

 

TPOs or Temporary Protective Orders are sometimes obtained through local courts in order to provide an emergent level of protection against a known perpetrator. These orders are enforceable by local law enforcement. Every situation differs for every applicant but know that this is an option that may also be available to you. Please let your advocate know if you are in danger or feel threatened in any way, and they can help you to file for a TPO.

SUPPORT

 

 

Make sure to keep your support network (a friend, neighbor, or family member you trust) in the loop. Let them know how you are feeling even if those feelings are uncomfortable. If you are not feeling safe or need another form of support and encouragement, you can always call our hotline which is open to crisis calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Self-Care

 

 

It can be tempting to try to brush aside emotions and move on with life. However, we know that the recovery process requires rest and self-care. Everyone is different, but each survivor requires time and a healing environment. How are you sleeping? If you need rest, do you allow yourself to nap? How are your eating patterns? Are you eating in a way that will nourish your body and help it to heal? Do you exercise? Do you have a routine that allows you to spend time on yourself? COUNSELING

 

 

Recovering from a sexual assault or abuse is a process, and that process looks different for everyone. It may take weeks, months, or years—there is no timetable for healing, but healing is possible. We understand that and we are here to help you. Our Licensed, Trauma-Informed Counselor is available for ongoing support and counseling as needed. Please call us to schedule an appointment. ADVOCACY

 

 

Partnering with our Center provides you an ongoing Advocate during your healing and recovery process. The services provided by you advocate are FREE and Confidential. Advocates are highly trained and available to accompany you to Law Enforcement Interviews, ongoing Medical Appointments, Court Proceedings, and help provide Inter-Agency Support throughout the Criminal Justice Process. We mean it when we say we are here for you, whether that is to locate services on your behalf or just to have someone to talk to.
